Home sick!!!

This Koala was stuck in the middle of the road because there were no Gum trees around. My dad has a saying "Aussie's are home sick just look at their gardens they're full of exotic plants".

Here in the Portland (vic) we have Koalas knocking on our front door, back door and in the shed. This one almost got dad he was scared because they have sharp claws and are very strong. Dad has been to hospital because he was scratched by a koala. A koalas scratch or bite has a lot of bacteria so infection starts very fast.

pet Emu's

These are our pet Emu's we kept them in our back yard because if they were on our farm they would be shot at. Emus make great pets because they eat spiders, snakes, fruit and seeds and they are really funny friends. The person in the picture is Jason and he is 6 foot 4.

Pets

Theses snakes are our pets their names are Olie and livey Olie is about 4 meters long and livey is about 3 meters long they are both olive pythons and are not venemos and they are both very plasid. They are great pets but if you want a pet snake you need a reptile license to own a snake.

Burning off

Fuel reduction burn on our Trust for Nature property in Donald, Victoria.
This is a woody grassland. We had problem with weeds in this area. The burn was in conducted in Autumn '06. To show how easy it is to conduct a fuel reduction burn we had 2 kids of the ages of 10 and 11 controlling the burn. They can be seen in the background. They protected the tree you can see in the background. We try to protect the old dead trees in a reduction burn for habitat. There was adult supervision.
Did you notice that there is still green patches on the ground? This is not like a wildfire which bares the ground completely. It only burns the bio mass.

what done this? we have no idea what happened the head was eaten the lungs were eaten the heart was left and this happened between 11:00pm & 7:00am.
This is the 4th carcass in three years.
This only happens in winter.
Have a guess?
This Southern Brown Bandicoot was found in an area that had a fuel reduction burn on the coast of Portland Victoria. There were very few sign of them in this area prior to the fuel reduction burn. We can see that they are digging at the new shoots because this is their favourite food. Fuel reduction burns promote vigorous growth of native plants. Bandicoots like the tubulars under the ground. You can see this by looking at the photos and checking out what the bandicoots were digging up.
